Description

SO 75 NE HALLOW CP GREEN STREET

3/79 Greenstreet Farmhouse

II

Farmhouse. Mid-C19 rebuilding of probably C17 structure, which during C18
appears to have been of considerable status. Rendered brick, concrete tiled
roof, brick stack at right gable end. Two storeys; 3-cell range. Irregular
fenestration. Front elevation has 3 glazing bar sashes at ground floor level,
an off-centre first floor 16-pane sash and flanking C20 casements; central
mid-C19 panelled door with similar reveal panels and moulded architrave;
wrought iron verandah with corrugated iron roof runs full length of facade.
Interior First floor central front room has cross-beamed ceiling, the beams
decorated with richly moulded and foliated plasterwork of probable late C17
date. Also early C17 carved chimney piece of Ionic columns, with exaggerated
entasis, flanking overmantel of blind arcade infilled with 3 relief panels
of scenes from Garden of Eden; additional columns beneath surround later
Adam style fireplace. Two storey wing to rear and single storey extension
at right gable end. Along and eastern edge of the front garden appears to
be a former late C17 or early C18 canal.
