SO 45 NW EARDISLAND CP UPPER HARDWICK

4/77 Hardwick House

GV II

House, incorporating former stables. C15, extended C16 and C17, with some
C18 and late C20 alterations. Timber-frame with painted brick and rendered
infill under a concrete tile roof. L-plan, limbs extending to south and west,
the latter containing remnants of C15 cruck open hall, with former stable block
extending to north from the north-east corner. North front has gabled cross-
wing to left, partly obscured by former stable block. Main range of two storeys
with four 3-light casements over six windows, mostly 2-light casements. Entrance
to left of centre has a C20 gabled and tiled porch and a C20 ledged and boarded
door. Framing: four square panels high to former stable, most of the rest two
square panels high to first floor. Interior has at least three cruck trusses,
which are heavily smoke blackened in the roof space.
