Inn, now house. Late C18, altered C19 and C20. Brick, old plain tile
roof. 2 storey and attic, 3 bay, outshot to rear. Front has to LH of
centre C20 gabled hood on brick piers. Each side 2-light segmental head
casement. 3-light similar in RH bay. On 1st floor 2-light casements and
blocked opening. On roof three 2-light hip-roofed dormers. Large ridge
stack to LH of centre above door. Stack at RH end. Building was inn
called 'The Forge Hammer' when Sowley was a major ironworks from 1800. It
ceased to be an inn in C20.
