An example of the larger version of hexagonal cast-iron pillar box designed by
J W Penfold in 1865 for the London area; produced 1866 to 79 by Cochrane and
Co. Ogee domed top decorated with foliage; oval finial. Royal coat of arms
above opening for letters. Initials VR applied to door of pillar box. See notes
by Dr M Wilks, Local Collection, Carshalton Public Library.
