Hostel for Stoke Rochford Training College. Garden front is Jacobean,
with Victorian wings. Georgian stable block. Jacobean section - brick,
2-storeys, 7 windows. Stone band, eaves cornice and balustrade. Stone
band beneath 1st floor windows. Windows 3-1-3, not original glazing bars,
flush framed. Ground floor windows - brick flat arch Joins 3 windows each
side. Stone plinth, Centre breaks forward - 1st floor window has flush
framed, brick recesses either side. Modern French window with broken
pediment on ground floor. To right and left, Victorian wings - slate
hipped roof. To right - rectangular bow through 2-storey with string
course between. The interior was completely remodelled in 1937, but
contains the remains of original doorways and the original cellars. A
wooden staircase with iron gates, probably C18, was brought from a
demolished house. In the same room is a fire basket with a decorated iron
back with the date 1724, but this is probably from another house.
