Church, 1882, by Basil Champneys for Miss Martha Turner of Carter Place.
Snecked sandstone, stone slate roof. Nave with west bellcote, south aisle
under catslide roof, chancel with south-east organ house and vestry; in
vernacular form with Decorated detail. Walls battered at lower level; 4-bay
nave has on north side in 1st bay a gabled porch with moulded arch and
slate-hung gable, in the other bays three large 3-light windows with different
reticulated tracery and hoodmoulds, large 6-light traceried west window;
chancel has a rectangular 2-light window with mouchettes in the head, a
rectangular niche with similar tracery containing a statue of the Evangelist,
and a large 5-light east window with flowing tracery. Roof carried to very
low level over south aisle, the wall blind except for mullioned 4-light window
at west end. Interior: aisle arcade of octagonal columns and
double-chamfered 2-centred arches; king-post roof trusses to semi-circular
vaulted roof (stencil decorated in chancel); semicircular triple-chamfered
chancel arch; priest door with moulded surround, cusp-headed sedilia, carved
wooden panelling in chancel; brass wall plaque lettered
"+To the glory of God this Church was
erected by Miss Martha Turner of Carter
Place in this parish mdccc1xxxii+".
