Farmhouse, C17, altered to make 2 cottages. Coursed sandstone with quoins,
slate roof with one chimney on the ridge, one at the right gable, and an
external chimney at the front end of the right return wall. Double-depth
2-bay plan, the 2nd bay projecting. Two storeys; 1st floor dripcourse to 2nd
bay, doorways with plain surrounds inserted close to angle in 1st bay and in
place of the left end of the original window in the 2nd bay, 2
double-chamfered stone mullion windows on each floor: 12 lights with transom
and hoodmould to the left, 4 lights (of original 6) to the right, and at 1st
floor 5 lights and 6 lights, the latter lacking the centre mullion. Left
return wall (or original 1st bay of 3?) now covered by No. 56; right return
wall and rear of less interest, the rear having C19 openings. Interior
remodelled.
