Farmhouse

Harris Farmhouse is shown on O.S. map as Haries Farmhouse.
Barn. Mid-to late C17 with minor later alterations. Weatherboarded
timber frame with sandstone rubble plinth on road side; corrugated iron
roof. L-plan. Long range has double doors to right, slatted window
to centre and 2 stable doors to left with another window to left. Short
range has double doors to left and stable door to right with window between.
Interior. Framing visible: mixture of vertical posts with long slightly
curving and straight tension braces and large rectangular panels, 2 from
cill to wall-plate,to both outer walls and bay partitions. Staggered
single-purlin roof with queen-post trusses in 3 bays to short range and
queen-strut truss to north gable end of long range. C20 loft to long
range and inspection of roof structure not possible at time of resurvey
(January 1987). Situated at north-west corner of farmyard and occupies
a prominent roadside position.
