The Green
GV II
House, formerly a farmhouse. Late C18, with late C19 additions
and remodelling. Coursed coal measures sandstone with ashlar
dressings, quoins, coped gables with moulded kneelers, ashlar
gable stacks, stone slated roofs. Main range with long added
range at rear. East elevation. Two storeys, five bays,
symmetrical front with central doorway, flanked by 2-light flush
mullioned windows with leaded lights having rectangular panes,
in iron casement frames. Doorway with flush jambs and massive
lintel, and aC20 plank door with glazed light to top. Broad
bandcourse above ground floor window heads, and similar band
linking heads of first floor windows. Simple eaves cornice.
Rear range has irregular fenestration, with windows of similar
design to those of east elevation, but of 1 to 4-lights. Hipped
end to roof and three brick stacks.
