Two cottages. Mid C19. Coursed squared marlstone with limestone-ashlar
dressings; Westmorland-slate roofs and marlstone-ashlar stacks with limestone
shafts. Single range with crosswings. C17 style. One storey plus attic. Central
section has 2 pointed-segmental-arched chamfered doorways flanking 2-light
windows, all below a deep roof overhang carried on large wooden brackets. A
stone-gabled 2-light dormer, rising from the roof, has moulded corbelling
concealed by the overhang. Gable walls of crosswings have, at first floor, gable
slits above 2-light stone mullioned windows with labels; at ground floor a
3-light mullioned window to left and right and a 4-light canted bay window with
cornice and stone roof. All windows have honeycomb lattice glazing. Roofs have
gable parapets with projecting kneelers; front gable of right wing has a
4-gabled apex stone. Chimneys have octagonal shafts and moulded caps. Interiors
have slate stairs and concrete first floors.
