Retaining wall to forecourt, now to an enclosed garden. C17,
upper parts C18. Red brick wall retaining slope to N. About 3
metres high on S. Upper part rebuilt in C18 with sloped
oversailing brick coping on toothed corbels. Central rectangular
embayment elaborated in C19 with a small terrace and fountain.
The wall enclosed the forecourt to the main entrance when the
main approach to Stanstead Bury was from the E.
