Former house and undercroft, now shop and printing works,
partly empty at the time of resurvey. House, C17 refaced and
altered in the early C19. Red brick, rendered on the timber-
hill facade:-3 bays. Central door with reeded surround and
pediment. Sash windows with flat rubbed brick arches.
Timberhill facade;- Plain shopfront with corner door and
end passage - entry.Sash windows with simple surrounds and
casement windows at 2nd floor. Box cornice and hipped roof.
Undercroft, C15, brick. 4½ bays with side chambers beneath
C16 & C17 corner block, turning at east end to follow
Timberhill street line. Single order chamfered ribs in
quadripartite design to full bays,pointed barrel vault
profile to west half bay. Entry stairs with timber treads
parallel to south wall and over partially blocked side chamber.
Western side chamber contains C17 brickwork conteporary with
rear range. North side chamber or exit, now obscured by
C19 stairs; remains of springing of arch, plastered chamfer over
stairs. Western half-bay: blocked opening, possibly of direct
exit to Orford Hill, making the undercroft unique amongst
domestic examples in Norwich.
