GV II

School. 1876 and extended 1886 by Frank Whitmore. Originally
an L-shaped building, enlarged to form an E-plan. Red brick
with slate roofs.
EXTERIOR: single-storey west front with 5 gabled projections
each fitted with three cusped lancets, the centre lancet
stepped up. Second gable from north has sashes without glazing
bars identifying headmistress's house. To south, a square
clock tower, the clock faces set under gablets within the
louvred base of a polygonal spire. To north, south and from
centre extend further wings to rear; at the east end of south
wing is the headmaster's house.
