Gate arch and part of precinct wall to the former Abbey of St
Werburgh (now Cathedral Church of Christ & the Blessed Virgin
Mary, St Werburgh Street qv). C14. Coursed red sandstone. The
basket-arched entry has an eroded chamfer to the street and on
the inner face a rebate for the former gate, with eroded slots
perhaps for hinges or bars. Included at high grade for
historic interest.
