TL 86 NE GREAT BARTON CHURCH ROAD

Farmhouse. C17 and later. 2 storeys; half-H form, with extensions at the
rear. Timber-framed and rendered; the rear extension in colour-washed kidney-
flint; slate roofs, the rear slope at a very shallow pitch. 2 internal
chimney-stacks with white brick shafts. 6 window range: 1:4:1: small-paned
sashes in wide flush frames. High entrance door, set off-centre, with 6
raised fielded panels and a large rectangular traceried fanlight. Panelled
architrave with a lozenge ornament at each corner. The left-hand cross-wing
is wider than the right, and has C19 mock timbering in the apex of the gable,
fluted bargeboards and 3 hanging finials. Side purlins project from the face
of the right-hand gable. A C17 wing at rear has plain joists set on edge, and
an upper fireplace with arched brick surround, rendered and moulded.
