Chambers over ground floor shop. 1913. By Metcalf and Greig.
Portland stone faced. Narrow fronted building in Arts & Crafts
manner.
8 storeys. 3 bays. Shop front altered in late C20 with plate
glass. All windows to upper floors transom and mullion with
small leaded panes. 1st floor with 3 shallow arch arcaded
windows with modillion cornice having scrolled brackets to
mark bays. Central bay has 5-light 2nd floor window, 3rd floor
lunette with carved enrichment to apron and spandrels, 4th,
5th and 6th floors a 5-light bowed oriel with bowed cornice
above which a tall gable with 5-light window flanked by tall
chimney like features rising through roof line, enriched apex,
and upswept eaves extending over outer bays to similar chimney
like features at angles. Outer bays have a 2-light window to
each floor until 6th floor with 3-light lunettes having
enriched heads, carved cartouche aprons and projecting
segmental cornice hoods on enriched brackets.
