Commercial building, with 2 shops at ground floor and offices
over; and attached verandah. Late C19; altered. Red brick with
sandstone dressings (painted white), slate roof; verandah of
cast-iron and glass. Edwardian Baroque style.
EXTERIOR: 4 storeys and 2 bays; with pilaster strips, sill
bands, and a pair of stepped shaped gables each with a
triangular shaft in the centre. The ground floor has altered
shop fronts; at first floor the centre of each bay has a large
round-headed keyed arch containing a canted oriel window and
flanked by one-light windows; at second floor each bay has 2
semicircular arched windows with imposts and keyed arch bands;
and at third floor a pair of square windows in an architrave
of paired colonettes with a cornice, those in the left bay of
2 arched lights with transoms but those in the right-hand bay
with altered glazing.
The verandah has cast-iron fluted Corinthian columns, altered
fascias and single-pitched glazed roof.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Forms group with Nos 179-205 adjoining to the left (qv) and
Nos 215-219 adjoining to the right (qv); and verandah is part
of the series which characterizes this street.
