Barn attached to west side of Low
Hollins Farmhouse

Bank barn with stable or store. Probably later C18 or earlier
C19. Coursed blue ragstone rubble, stone slate roof. L-plan
formed by main range on north-south axis with short wing at
north end of east side linked to west gable of farmhouse. The
wing is 2 bays and 2 low storeys: the 1st bay, bridging a
covered wagon entry next to the house with a shallow segmental
arch composed of rubble voussoirs with a keystone, has a small
square window to the upper floor, and the 2nd bay has a
doorway at ground floor and a square loading door above. To
the right, the north gable of the barn has a flight of 4 steps
up to a doorway and to the right of this a square window at
the same level and a similar window to the shippon below; the
west side has only a doorway flanked by 2 windows to the
northern half; the south gable has a doorway flanked by 6-pane
windows, and through-stones on 3 levels above; and the east
side, on higher ground towards the house, has a wagon doorway
to the storage barn. Forms group with Low Hollins Farmhouse
(qv).
