Park Lodge next to Old College Gate,
Dulwich Park

GV II

Park lodge. Dated 1889. By the LCC Architects' Department. Red
brick in English bond; tilehanging, and mock box-framing to
1st floor and gables of oversailing hampers. Roofs of tile.
Old English style.
PLAN: cross wing plan, with gable facing to west range, and
gable facing to return of east wing; both gables with
ornamental barge-boards.
EXTERIOR: 2 and a half storeys; 2-storey bays below each
hamper, that to west wing rectangular becoming canted, that to
the east wing canted; each of these ranges is one-window wide.
Entrance under a Jacobean-style timber-framed porch set in
corner between 2 wings, set into a square projection
containing the entrance hall. Catslide dormer above entrance
lights stair hall. 2-light window lights to west gable.
Ornamental rainwater heads.
To left, or west return, a very picturesque elevation with
chimney breast, stepping up in stages to box-framed gable; in
centre a rubbed brick plaque inscribed "L.C.C. 1889"; chimney
finishes as a dormer stack. Stacks rebuilt to an original
pattern since 1980.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Forms a group with Old College Gate and Dulwich Old College
(qqv).
