Memorial. c1896. Ashlar with bronze plaque. Elaborately carved
pedestal memorial with cross on top. The cornice of the
pedestal has foliage decoration, the tapering base of the
cross above has roundels with miniature relief carvings of the
Evangelists and the cross has floral decoration. On the front
a plaque showing a head and shoulders profile portrait in
relief of the distinguished musician Sir Charles Halle,
1819-1895; founder of the Halle Orchestra in 1858 and first
Principal of the Royal Manchester College of Music in 1893.
The memorial also commemorates his wife and 2 sons.
