Pair of semi-detached villas. c1824-8 with later alterations.
Probably by John Forbes. Stucco over brick with concealed roof
and stuccoed party-wall stacks.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 4 first-floor windows with recessed outer
2-storey, entrance bays. Stucco detailings include first-floor
sill band; crowning frieze and cornice with low, coped
parapet, stepped to centre. 6/6 sashes where original, all in
plain reveals; those to ground floor are taller and in wider
and taller segmental-arched recesses. 6-panel doors with
overlights.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
HISTORICAL NOTE: the street was known originally as
Montpellier Retreat. John Forbes was architect and surveyor to
the Pittville Estate c1824-5.
