Tomb of John Cam Hobhouse (deceased 1869). By Lander and Co., masons. Carrara marble. Massive eared sarcophagus with ridged roof on four squat colonettes, standing on a stepped base, placed on slab of York stone. History: Hobhouse, a close friend of Byron's in his youth, became a writer, Whig MP and minister. Inscribed `He was eminent alike in political and literary life and after a public career of success and honour found unbroken happiness in domestic repose'.
