Headstone, 1854, to William Newmarch, in sandstone. Rectangular headstone with rounded top and low stone surround and footstone. Inscription: Erected as a tribute /of the filial affection /Inmemory of WILLIAM NEWMARCH /of this Town /who devoted 21 years /of his early life /in the defence of his Country until the close of the Peninsula War. /After a long life of /industry /departed this life /the 25th of June /1865, aged 83 years /Also of ANN his wife /who died ( ) April 1855 /( )JOHAN GUSTAF ( ). Relief carving above and to sides of laurel wreath, rifle, bayonet etc in slightly damaged condition, and battle and honours of the 20th Regiment of Foot, i.e. Maida, Landyke, Egmont op Zee, Sandhils and Wilhelmstadt (left side), and Egypt, Vimiera, Corronna, Walcheren, Pyrenees, Badajos and Alexandria (right side).
