Shop, with accommodation over. Mid C19 wing to existing C18 house (qv No.3).
MATERIALS: Rendered, probably over brick, Welsh slate roof.
PLAN: Narrow single depth plan projecting forward towards road from No.3.
EXTERIOR: Two storeys, one window. Small modern shop front to ground floor with timber mullions and plain fascia and stallriser, and modern plastic blind. Two mid C19 four-pane sashes above. Roof hipped to front.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
HISTORY: Avenue Place was one of the earliest developments in Combe Down, dating from the mid-C18 (it is shown on a drawing of 1759). This shop was formerly the Carriage Inn, which took its name from the stone-bearing wagons used in the local quarries.
