Inn. Early to mid C19. Rendered, slate roof.
MATERIALS: Symmetrical villa like front range, with parallel and narrower range, plus pavilion like kitchen or service area, and long lateral wing to right, set back.
EXTERIOR: Main building two storeys, three windows, sashes, all to slightly sunk surrounds, including arched panel to ground floor. Six, eight, and six-pane above twelve-pane, with central pair of panelled doors to radial fanlight, and on three stone steps. Low pitched roof to box eaves, stack to left and rear. The return to left has two eight-pane and central eight-pane stair light, C20 glazed quadrant to former single storey service range, rendered in front and rubble to rear. Right return has two eight-pane at each level. Long wing, rendered to front and ashlar or rubble elsewhere, has various lights in sunk panels, and late C20 glazed door toward left. Rear of wing pantiled, with swept down section. Rear of main range has twelve-pane sash and door, with attached two storey pavilion like unit to right, upper door gives to steel escape stair.
INTERIOR: Ground floor only inspected: now a member of the Harvester chain, it has undergone extensive alteration.
HISTORY: This was a prominently sited inn, built at an angle to an important crossing of routes, and close to the Bath Union Workhouse. It has been regularly refurbished over time.
