Description

D. Macmillan, Architect, Aberdeen, 1886. Romanesque,

rectangular church with long elevations E and W, projecting

gabled entrance porch at NW. Coursed pink granite W

frontage and N gable, harl pointed granite rubble rear and

S gable, tooled sandstone dressings. Round-headed

hood-moulded entrance in porch with double-leaf plank doors

with ornate cast-iron hinges; apex bellcote. 3-bay W

elevation with paired round-headed windows linked by

continuous blind arcade with pendant detailing matching

cushion capitals to nook-shaft. Similar blind arcading flanks

3 long lancets in N gable; square paned leaded glazing. Slate

roof with tile ridge.

Small gabled Minister's room at S gable. Interior:

Orientated N/S; pine plan dado and pine pews; panelled front

to raised Minister's desk under canopied tester with flanking round-headed doorpieces (to vestry) and panelled doors.

Similar double-leaf doors and round-headed doorpiece to main

entrance. Mural memorial to Rev. James Martineau 1805-1900.

Statement of Interest

Ecclesiastical building in use as such. Built at cost of

$1,000 and opened for worship, 15 Aug., 1886.
