Description

Philip Webb, 1864. Tall, 2-atorey and attic, building on
sloping site, with wide segmental headed archway from lane to
walled garden passing through SE end. All random rubble with
tooled ashlar dressings.
Buttressed SE gable with 1st floor window and long attic
window under relieving arch (similar attic window in NW
gable). Paired 1st floor windows, also under relieving arches
to right of centre wallhead stack in long NE elevation, and
above squat lean-to.
Modern glazed lean-to (as though glass house; 1981-2) masks
much of SW elevation and ground floor entrance.
Steeply pitched slate roof, projecting over deep soffitted
eaves at NE. Archway passing under bothy closed by simple
pair plank gates and single pedestrian gate, each with long
blacksmith's hinges. Interior; simple interior with modern
staircase restored as dwelling in 1981-2.
Long single storey gardener's shed range (similar building
fabrics) extends from NW gable; part open to NE, and
supported by 5 square wooden columns with curved flanking
struts, all supported on square rubble plinths which increase
in height as sloping site demands.
