Description

Robert Stevenson, 1828. Circular whitewashed tooled granite
tower; corbelled balcony with cast-iron balustrated around
light. Single storey semi-circular building at base.
Lighthouse fronted by Egyptian style single storey range
of 2-3 keepers' cottages with advanced porches, all
whitewashed tooled granite; tall stacks; flat roof.
Cottages linked to lighthouse by low retaining walls have
forming small court, the whole further enclosed by outer
perimeter coped rubble wall containing later range of single
storey cottages and service building.

Statement of Interest

Lighthouse, sited on most north-westerly tip of UK

mainland, was built at cost of $14,000.
