Description

Thomas Telford, 1829. Simple rectangular Parliamentary church. Rubble 4-bay NE frontage, harled flanks and rear; tooled ashlar dressing. Double leaf doors in shallow pointed headed arches in outer bays (blocked at left); similar arch detail to windows in centre bays front and rear and single windows in NW and SE gables, with original cast-iron window frames with centre mullion, shallow Y-tracery and lattice-pane glazing. Standard Parliamentary church bellcote at SE gable apex; slate roof. Later small single storey vestry to rear.

Interior; simple interior re-orientated to SE gable.

Burial ground: church enclosed by simple rubble walled burial ground.

Additional walled burial ground to NE running down slope to road, with crenellated entrance arch as war memorial arch in bullfaced rubble, with plaques set in outer faces. Simple walls to lower burial ground with rounded roughly tooled copes.

Unusual variation of standard Parliamentary T-plan church -

no rear wing.
