Description

Dated 1888. Single storey village library with small
caretaker's cottage attached, latter enlarged to rear in
20th century. L-plan. Main (south east) elevation: built
of whin rubble with contrasting ashlar dressings (flanks
rendered); library to left in advanced and finialed gable,
latter with tall pointed panel with roll-moulded doorway
& inscription over; flanking lancets: good decorative
cast-iron porch in re-entrant angle and door to cottage;
single window right. End stacks; slate roof with cast-iron
cresting.
Set behind low wall with iron railings, outer piers with
pointed panels.

Statement of Interest

Library instituted 1838.

Foundation stone laid 4th August 1888.

Original collection now dispersed.
