Built circa 1860. Symmetrically arranged U-plan block
comprising, at N, 2-storey, 3-bay cartshed and loft with
shaped skews, short end stacks and tall 3-stage square
central turret; flanking single storey ranges (cottages W,
workshops E), these with end bays (at S) not original,
porches linked to screen walls and gatepiers closing
courtyard. Built mostly of narrow-coursed red rubble with
ashlar dressings and slab margins. Turret stages deeply
off-set, steps to loft in bottom stage, other stages with
deep cavetto cornices; shaped finial. Sash windows, mostly 4
or 12-pane glazing. W range has bracketted hood over wide
W-facing opening, latter partly blocked, and now a main door;
tripartite alongside. End and axial stacks (tall stacks - 1
cut down - over additions); roofs covered with graded slates.
Detached sheds to W not included in listing. Shows influence
of some of Walter Newall's work.
