Description

Walter F Lyon of London. Dated 1880-1881. Scots Baronial
mansion. Asymmetrical. Snecked bull-faced red ashlar with
polished dressings, margins, roll-moulding and corbelling.
Mostly 2 storeys with imitation tower house at SW with
conical-roofed corbelled angle turret, corresponding tall
wide gable and corbelled square turret towards E end of
house. Some windows mullioned and transomed, particularly at
ground, finialled and pedimented dormer heads break through
eaves; some gables crowstepped, others with skews with
finials or skewputts. Coped stacks; slate roofs. Advanced
gable on W flank, pedimented doorway in low block filling
re-entrant angle, all with continuous corbel table. N
elevation with large stair window, one advanced bay canted at
ground and corbelled to square below gable head.
INTERIOR: extensive timber panelling to halls, stair and
rooms; timber and marble chimneypieces.
