Description

Mid 19th century. 2-storey stable block with Classical

features; 2 ranges in L-plan, and low walls form courtyard.

Built of red brick with contrasting yellow brick dressings

and corbelled red ashlar cornice. Segmental-arched openings.

Symmetrical 5-bay east range has pedimented 3-bay centrepiece

to courtyard with arcaded cartshed, panelled clasping

pilasters and louvred oculus; door and window at ground in

each outer bay; single windows at 1st floor (former groom's accommodation) (sash windows with 4-pane glazing); corniced symmetrically placed axial stacks. South range (with hayloft) symmetrical - 3 inner bays (with 2 diamond-shaped brick

ventilators) in 1st floor flanked by doors at each level;

additional linking bay in re-entrant angle; squat axial

ventilator with ball-finialed bell-cast lead roof; otherwise,

all roofed with graded slates. L-plan low range adjoins at

east. Courtyard closed at north by ashlar-coped red brick wall.
