Description

Restored tower house on small islet with curtain wall skirting shoreline. Essentially early-mid 15th century. Additions and

alterations late 15th-17th century including raising of tower

house parapet and of curtain, courtyard buildings at south

west built, first record courtyard buildings at north and east

curtain altered/raised. Abandoned probably mid 18th century,

restored 1938-70 by R.L. MacNeil of Barra (himself an

architect). All rubble-built. Tower house almost square-plan

with splayed low plinth and crenellated high parapet;

curtain parapet similarly treated: original entrance beside

tower house blocked, present entrance at west.

Scheduled 17 January 2001. Scheduling excludes all clearly identifiable 20th Century fabrics.
