Description

Early 19th century estate smiddy, comprising workshop and house with identical 3-bay front elevations. 3-bay to SE, wings extending to NW forming U-plan to rear; domestic block to S (road), and smiddy workshop to N. Rubble-built with pitched pantiled roof, ashlar skews; apex stacks over gables and partition wall on main SE range. Earlier, brick and pantiled lean-to attached to S elevation of rear wing of N block, amd modern flat-roofed rear porch addition in rear (NE) re-entrant angle.

MAIN (SE) ELEVATION: 2 symmetrical 3-bay entrance elevations, of domestic block to left, and smiddy workshop to right. Glazed modern porch addition masking centre entrance bay to left. Segmental headed (lintel, no arch) windows, largely with original glazing; 12-pane sash and case at domestic block except on SW (road facing) gable end of domestic block, where one window has been replaced, fixed multi-pane glazing with boarded lower panels at workshop; original vertically-boarded door at smiddy workshop entrance; similar original glazing and doors on side and rear elevations.

Interior of workshop unaltered, and retaining early forge and tools.
