Description

House: 1833/34. Repairs and alterations, Alexander Ross,
1865. 2 storey, 3 bay house over raised basement. Harled,
tooled margins. Slightly advanced and pedimented centre bay,
SE front with centre (secondary) door to basement and (later)
bipartites to ground and 1st floors. Centre entrance, NW
elevation approached by shallow steps with cast-iron
handrail. 8- and 16-pane glazing: twin ridge stacks; piended
slate roof. Steading: 1825. Shallow V-plan with stable, 2
chart-sheds and byres in southern arm and 5 bay hay/threshing
barn to north (with long elevations orientated east/west);
centre threshing doors flanked by paired louvred vents;
similar vent to north gable. Threshing floor and divided
winnowing doors. Tie-beams omitted above threshing floor.

Statement of Interest

1865 alterations appear to have placed entrance in former

rear. Earlier Manse destroyed by fire in 1833. Barn tie beams

absent above threshing floor to give room for swing of flail.
