Description

Probably James Smith and Alexander McGill, early 18th
century. Former E gateway to Yester House. Square channelled
ashlar gatepiers with cornice and stepped caps bearing ball
finials.
Outstanding wrought-iron overthrow with coronet, supported by
railed panels at piers.
19th century, small, pyramid capped ashlar piers to flanking
pedestrian gates.

Statement of Interest

The stepped capping and small ball finials seem somewhat

imbalanced, and possibly replaced earlier finials. N gateway

in Gifford designed later by James Adam. Later 19th century

lodge by gateway not included in current listing.
