Probably Thomas Muirison, circa 1815 with extensive late 19th
century alterations. Large N facing hollow square comprising
dwellings carriages house and stables with various other
offices. Early work of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings.
later building of bullfaced rubble with contrasting tooled
ashlar sandstone dressings.
2-storey off-centre tower over round-headed arched entrance
with Venetian window in front and back with clock face in
pediment; ball finials at gable apices. Flanking single
storey and loft range, terminating in crowstepped outer bays.
Various segmental headed entrances. Symmetrical S facing
elevation with further round headed entrance under crowstepped
gable with small cupola at ridge with weathervane. Flanking
3-bay stable ranges, terminating at outer advanced crowstepped
bays with paired round-headed carriage houses. Single storey
and attic, 10 bay E elevation divided as 5 dwellings with
gabled dormers breaking wallhead, roll moulding to door and
window jambs and multi-pane glazing.
W elevation taken up by further dwelling and various other
offices.
Coped ridge stacks; slate roofs.
A full square in existence by 1873 (1st ed. OS).
