Description

18th century. Single-storey, 4-bay cottage (originally 2 cottages). Door and small window to 2nd bay. Stucco render painted white. Irregular fenestration. Early 20th century cast-iron stand pipe by Glenfield and Kennedy, Kilmarnock, to far right.

Multi-pane glazing to irregularly sized timber sash and case windows. Red pantiles. End stack to E gable.

Statement of Interest

Laigh Cottage at 26 Main Street, Kilconquhar is a good example of a single-storey dwelling substantially retaining its 18th century character with irregular fenestration and thick rendered walls adding interest of the streetscape. The standpipe, patented in 1902 by celebrated iron foundry Glenfield and Kennedy, Kilmarnock is one of three survivals located along Kilconquhar Main Street.
