Description

Earlier 19th century. Crossroads smithy. Single storey,
centre-doored, 3-bay cottage, recessed E wing with lower
roof pitch, rear (N) wing adjoins latter in L-plan
arrangement. Rubble-built and whitewashed with contrasting
painted ashlar magins. All roofed with graded slates.
COTTAGE: deeply-chamfered reveals; boarded door with
trellised porch; sash windows with 4-pane glazing pattern;
pedimented gables; straight skews; coped central axial stack
and single end stack. Bipartite in W gable.
SMITHY: range adjoining cottage has single S-facing
small-paned window, wide E gable opening partly blocked;
forge in rear wing below S end stack.
