elevations N and S. Rubble, tooled rubble dressings. Centre
narrow entrance with chamfered jambs in S elevation. Single
rat course encircles building, 2nd course returning
across each gable with small vent above. Crowstepped gables;
slate roof in poor condition.
INTERIOR: interior lined with approximately 750 stone nesting
boxes, each with rubble verticals and stone-slate horizontal

Statement of Interest

Dovecot sited on edge of gorge falling away to Burn

of Boyne. Built to serve the late 16th century Boyne

Castle on the E side of the burn (in Boyndie Parish). This

castle replaced an earlier castle sited on the cliff edge

which may have had a dovecot similar to the beehive cote

at Findlater, in turn superseded by this dovecot nearer

the castle. Building much overgrown and in poor condition.
