Description

Dated 1746. Restored 1907. Ashlar obelisk on inscribed
and corniced pedestal set upon rock-faced base. Sited in
woodland to N of Newhailes House. Latin inscription in
memory of John, 2nd Earl of Stair, who fought as 2nd in
command to George II at Dettingen, 1743. Bronze plaque
declaring recarving of pedestal in 1907 for Sir Charles
Dalrymple, Bart.
