Description

William Burn 1825 as Freeland House for Lord Ruthven,
considerable parts of earlier house incorporated. Large
asymmetrical 2/3-storey Tudor gothic mansion, pre-1825
work rubble, 1825 work stugged ashlar. Interior of interest
in original position.
with central hall at 1st floor with lantern light, finely
detailed ceilings of varying types in principal rooms.
Louis Quinze surrounds to panels in drawing room. Early
Renaissance chimneypieces of good design added later.
Staff room has details of c.1780 relict of earlier house.
E. facade unfortunately enclosed in school additions after
1921.
