Description

William Trotter 1832. Classical 2-storey 9-window front,
centre 3 advanced with pediment, large glazed anta porch;
circular lantern at roof and octagonal shafted chimneys;
1-window centre pediments E. & W. rear parts 3-storey.
Harled with margins, modillioned cornice. Very large
central staircase with dome and lantern on semi-elliptical
pendentives, gallery at 1st floor level.
Large ballroom with screen of Corinthian columns. Original
house of 1711 (remodelled and converted to office wing)
removed c.1962.

Statement of Interest

Wm. Trotter was an Edinburgh wood merchant who specialised

in mahogany and other fine woods for cabinetmaking. He

was Lord Provost 1827.
