Description

Alexander Ross of Inverness, circa 1875, variant of his standard

design used in the Inverness-shire parts of the Outer Isles (eg in

the Uists), combining school and schoolhouse in the one building;

single storey house has attic - with mullioned classroom windows

set below jerkined roofs. Harled; slate roofs; sashes, with 4-pane glazing pattern. SCHOOL is basically L-plan, one entrance in rear outshot, also porch in re-entrant angle at front; axial stack;

SCHOOLHOUSE has 2-bay front, door and single window, attic

bipartite in gable head below axial stack. Detached 4-door lavatory block; also master's garden shed. Rubble-built boundary/playground walls.
