Description

Mid to later 19th century. Single storey and attic gabled gate lodge. Squared and snecked red sandstone with contrasting grey ashlar sandstone dressings, partly stugged. Chamfered arises.

NW ELEVATION: 3-bay. Door at centre with letterbox fanlight. Window toright. Slightly advanced gabled bay to left with piend-roofed, corniced, canted ashlar window at ground and narrow window in gablehead. NE ELEVATION: window at ground to left (re-sited from centre) and blinded, narrow attic window to centre of gablehead.

SW ELEVATION: window at centre and smaller window in gablehead above.

SE ELEVATION: original and modern projections to rear.

8-pane sash and case windows; lying-pane glazing to side lights of canted window and in blinded form to NE gablehead. Overhanging eaves with moulded brackets and simple barge board. Coped gablehead stacks. Grey slates.

Statement of Interest

Yester House is listed in Yester Parish with the remainder of the estate. The fine Danskine Gateway with ornate ironwork and classical piers (listed separately) by the lodge to the north, pull the simple pattern book design into a new frame of reference.
