Description

Rambling 2 storey and attic house; early 19th century core
with frequent additions throughout 19th century.
Harled with painted margins.
Originally south facing 2 storey and attic over raised
basement, 3 bays with centre door flanked by tripartites
at ground and 1st floor, 2 piended Dormer and margined end
stacks. Circa 1830/40 centre projecting wing 2 storeys, 2
bays with tripartites in ground and 1st floor bowed gable
and piended roof, housing dining and drawing rooms.
House re-orientated to face west in later 19th century with
present 3-bay gabled facade with recessed centre bay with
entrance, round headed flanking lights fanlight and panelled
door. Cast-iron columns support balcony with decorative
cast-iron balustrade linking outer bays to form porch.
Outer canted bay windows rising to 1st floor with scalloped
parapets and finialled skews; shaped gable over
narrow centre bay. Further service wings to rear. Various
glazing patterns corniced end and wallhead stacks; slate
roof.
Interior; coved plaster ceiling to circa 1830/40 1st floor
drawing room.

Statement of Interest

Renamed West field in 1832, and referred to as such on 1st

edition of OS, 1880.
