Description

Mid-later 16th century, roofless remains of rectangular church orientated to east all rubble; doorway at SW. East wall fragmentary, possibly formerly contained window. Small rectangular windows in SE and NE.

Interior: segmental headed tomb recess in north wall; all dressings robbed but 2 panels, one above the other, survive, the lower dated 1641 with coat of arms. Various tombs in much overgrown church floor.

Burial ground: fenced burial ground extends to south of church.

Statement of Interest

Burial ground in use. Small panel in tomb recess with monogram combining letters DMR; probably Macdonald or Clanranald, the Island of Eigg having formerly belonged to Clanranald of Arisaig. Ornately carved shaft of Celtic cross on later plinth, with late 19th century head (now broken away) stands in burial ground.
