Description

Early 20th century (after 1903), small single storey traditional cottage of 3 bays. Dry stone rubble with rounded corners and slightly battered walls. Centre entrance in NE frontage with flanking, enlarged windows with 4-pane glazing; plank door divided in half horizontally. Later additional window in centre NW gable. End wallhead stack at SE gable;

piended rush thatch roof over turf divots held down with fishing net and variety of weights and stones; pair "raven sticks" at ridge apices. Interior: single room divided by roughly constructed timber box bed. Cottage measures roughly 22' by 13' on plan.

Statement of Interest

Single surviving cottage of pair. Unusually complete survival of vernacular house. Currently (1984) in occasional use only.
