Description

Later to late 18th century. 2-storey end of terrace house

sited on falling ground. Warm-coloured rubble sandstone with

variety of margin dressings. Much window alteration.

E ELEVATION: 2-bay, at variety of dates 2-storey front. Door

to left with chamfered arrises; bipartite formed from original

window to right. 2 original 1st floor windows under eaves.

W ELEVATION: raised basement in fall of land. Door off-centre

to right, with flanking windows set higher and widely probably

inserted. Windows above near-symmetrical with small central

stair window, small window at left in 1st, possibly indicating

original window size.

N (GABLE) ELEVATION: largely blank; former door to outer

left blocked, formerly with forestair(?), small window

below at ground level. Small-pane glazing pattern to sash and

case windows, some 4-pane. Modern pantile roof with slate

easing course; skylight at rear. End and mutual gable stacks. OUTBUILDING: probably late 18th century. Rectangular plan

building in rubble sandstone with stugged dressings and

pantile piend roof, sited on falling ground by Gifford

Water. Carriage door to E elevation with later lintel and

flanked by modern catslide shelter to right with timber

columns. Swept dormer breaking eaves and slated on roadside

elevation.

Statement of Interest

Flagstones and setts between terrace and avenue.

Imposing group, built for yeomen.
